Yoga for Pregnancy
Yoga for Pregnancy
Yoga is a great way to enjoy your pregnancy and to prepare your mind, body & spirit for childbirth & parenthood. The concentration, focus, breathing techniques and strength required for childbirth are all essential elements of yoga.
In Yoga for Pregnancy, we practice acceptance & awareness. You are able to decide how far to stretch, which positions are comfortable for you and which are not. The more you learn to listen to your body now, the more you can be in tune with yourself during the birth. Your approach & attitude will have an important part to play in making this birth a fulfilling & empowering experience. The yoga poses or asana that you will learn in the class will help to strengthen and tone your body in preparation for labour as well as helping to open your body and improve your flexibility.
Your birthing experience will also be influenced by the skills you bring to it. In this class, we practice skills and techniques that will give you more option and choices as you give birth. This includes breath awareness. Often taken for granted, it can take a while to learn to harness your breath & use if effectively. Focusing on the breath during labour is for many women, the best way to cope, to help you relax through contractions, find relief from discomforts & put you in a place of feeling stronger & more present with your experience.
And…we practice relaxation. Having a baby is a big event, and like all big events, can be a bit stressful. The ability to relax is a skill everybody needs in stressful times, and like awareness & breathing, relaxation can be learned.
Monday's & Thursday's 5.15-6.45 pm; Saturday 10-11.30am;
No booking required.
$17 casual; $75/5; $130/10 - cash or cheque - sorry we don't have eftpos or credit card facilities

"I always looked forward to your classes as 'time out' to focus on my pregnancy and nurture my body and spirit during this time of enormous change. I learnt an enormous amount about pregnancy wellbeing and mind/body fitness from your classes and appreciate you sharing your yoga wisdom and personal experiences with us. You were a big influence in giving me the inner strength to opt for a natural brith without drugs or medical intervention. I found the breathing techniques we learnt in your classes invaluable to my labour experience, especially during the transition stage when it's harder to keep focused. Your classes also helped me to appreciate that silence and stillness can be a source of strength in the face of pain/difficulty. Yoga taught me to look inward for my determination and my centre. I also appreciated your teaching about the importance of yeilding, letting go during labour (rather than tensing up), and how different positions can assist with the birth. The yoga exercises themselves were also extremely useful during pregnancy for assisting with balance (as the body changes its centre of gravity), flexibility, pelvic floor muscle development and general physical fitness. And the classes were also really fun!!'' - Kate - mother of William

'' ...So once little Chloe arrived, I was really looking forward to starting the Yoga Babes class. The class definitely helped me gain my strength and flexibility again. And the baby massage techniques were very relaxing for both Chloe and I......I feel very strongly that yoga helped me feel good during my pregnancy and recover quickly from the birth. Both classes really helped my body as well as my mind. The yoga classes also helped me learn to live in the moment. It is a piece of advice I have always heard, but never fully understood until my little girl arrived.'' - Libby - mum of Chloe.

Yoga for Post Natal Depression - on hold
This class is specifically for women who have been diagnosed with Post Natal Depression and are being treated, whether medically or alternatively.
This is a gentle class focussing on grounding, reducing anxiety, relieving adrenal fatigue, balancing the nervous and endocrine (hormonal) systems, and creating positive energy. No sharing required. Babies welcome.
‘This class has been great to help me get some time out for myself each week to relax and re-energise. It has been good to have somewhere to go where you don’t feel ashamed of feeling bad but don’t feel like you have to talk about your problems. I have been struggling with insomnia and find I get the best night sleep of the week after this class. And, it makes me feel so good to take some time out where I’m not rushing around and thinking about all the things on my ‘to do’ list – clearing the mind works wonders’. –A.T.

"Regular yoga classes have definately helped my overall wellbeing. There have been several occassions when I have begrudgingly gone to yoga and have left an hour later feeling completely rejuvinated & energetic. It has made a noticeable difference in both my strength and flexibility. For me, the best thing about yoga is the incredibly positive mental state it leaves you in. This is particularly helpful as it is exam time!". HH. Westlake Girls High School.
